Pronounced 'Tessel', Texel is a Dutch island municipality lying about an hour way from Amsterdam. Measuring 24km long and 9km wide, it is the largest and most populated of the Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea. Texel is home to seven villages and most importantly, one brewery but much of it is covered by sand dunes and about one-third is a protected nature reserve. The island is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The Texel Brewery purchased its copper brewhouse in 2003. Three holding tanks allow two brewing cycles each day while the brewer's own strain of yeast are used in the five custom built fermentation tanks.
