First brewed in 1975, Old Foghorn Ale is an after dinner sipping ale in the style of traditional English barley wine. A blend of 2 Row and Caramel malts, only Cascade hops are used with more Cascade added during the 6 month cellar ageing process.
Fermented with a top-fermenting yeast the ale is carbonated by a process known as 'bunging'. High in alcohol and slightly sweet, due to residual sugars, the result of using only the first running of the mash.

(best before May-14) Clear, dark mahogany with ruby highlights and thin head which quickly dissipates to mere ring of foam.
Cherry, rhubarb and burnt fruitcake.
Slight fruity sweetness (plum, cherry and overripe banana) balanced with vinous alcohol, grapefruit and tannins from blackened fruitcake and burnt currants.
Vinous burnt fruitcake. Rich, strong and rewarding for those brave enough to properly appreciate.
