Tokyo weighs in at a massive 18.2% abv making it the UK’s strongest beer. It is an oak-aged imperial stout, which has been produced in a limited edition of just 3,000 bottles.
The Brew Dog brewery behind Tokyo, which also produces beers such as ‘Punk IPA’ and ‘Trashy Blond’, caused public outcry from health campaigners in 2008 when it originally launched Tokyo at a mere 12%. Tokyo is brewed with jasmine and cranberries as well as a large amount of malts and American hops. It is then fermented with a champagne yeast to enable the high abv. The beer is then dry hopped before being aged on toasted French vanilla oak chips to give it an entirely unique flavour.

Avaliação e degustação

Experimentado em 03/01/2011

Aparência:

Dark brown, almost black.

Aroma:

Alcohol laced dark chocolate, molasses and raisin nose.

Sabor:

Massive. Explodes with alcohol warmth, molasses and dark chocolate.

Aftertaste:

Starts sweetly with red berry fruit liqueur notes and quickly turns bitter and alcoholic. Perhaps something of a publicity stunt, this is a challenging experience rather than a cleansing ale, and I’d be hard pushed to finish even half a bottle.
