Initially aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon barrels, this 14 year single malt from the Isle of Arran spent its last two years in fresh bourbon barrels and fresh sherry hogsheads, two-thirds American oak and one-third European oak. It is bottled without caramel colouring or chill filtration.
Introduced in August 2010 as a replacement for The Arran 12 Year Old (introduced late 2008 and now discontinued).
Sampled on 08/12/2012
Clear deep golden amber.
Dried fruit and peach skin bursts forth with cream-of-soda vanilla and vanilla fudge. Strong pear drops, subtle hazelnut and ginger snap biscuits emerge with water.
Initial sweetness is quickly countered by bitter tannins and salty notes. Juicy apple, hazelnuts, orange zest and toasted coconut.
Long cinnamon spiced finish with lingering brine.
