Review

Set within three vast, high railway arches just behind Borough Market, Brew Wharf combines brasserie, beer hall and microbrewery.

You enter via the venue's own walled yard, complete with outside tables, and through a café style open frontage. The first arch houses a bar counter bristling with gleaming beer pumps, the middle arch an open kitchen and a glass fronted beer cellar, while the last offers a view of the brewing vessels behind. All three arches are furnished with simple wooden tables and contrast a white mosaic floor with towering bare brickwork.

Two real ales are brewed on site, one with Fuggles hops and the other with Goldings Kentish hops. Many of the other draught beers come from the celebrated Meantime brewery in Greenwich, including the excellent Vienna-styled Union lager.

The wine list and the brasserie menu are heavily influenced by France's Alsace region. Ingredients are sourced exclusively from the famous market across the street.

Brew Wharf attracts an after work crowd of office escapees so is bustling early evening and on Saturday lunchtimes when Borough Market attracts travelling foodies in need of refreshment.
