Review

Bermondsey Street is hardly short of quality places to eat and drink, but the Garrison is its most praised - so much so that I'd to secure your table well ahead.

The green-tiled exterior has a quaint, almost country pub look and the theme continues inside with sage coloured, country kitchen panelling. But that's where the coordination ends for this is an interior of vastly contrasting styles: plush wallpaper, silk lamps, American diner-style booths and space age bucket seats collaborate implausibly.

The homely feel, coupled with an excellent modern British menu and great service, has proved a major hit with Bermondsey's hip creatives. They are made further at home by a cinema room in the basement.

The Garrison may be a fantastic restaurant but it retains all the essential elements of a great pub although dinners take precedence and there's not much space to prop up the bar. The wine list has some real gems and there is usually one cask ale on draught.
