Review

This classic English neighbourhood pub sits at the foot of Greenwich Park smack on the Meridian Line. At night the laser from the Greenwich observatory passes directly overhead, noticeable when sat outside in the pub's patio garden behind. A high wall separates the pub from the park, and its back street location, means The Feathers is hidden from all but the most inquisitive tourists.

The pub dates from 1691 but its façade is later, from the late 1700s. While checking out the street's architecture, see number 15 - the aptly named Hamilton House, once the home of Emma Hamilton, Nelson's lover.

The pub's single room wraps itself around a central bar with a restaurant area at the back. Framed maritime prints, insignia, decorative plates and glass cases filled with old knick-knacks dot the walls. The clutter, low ceiling and heavy curtains give The Feathers a cosy, country pub in the city feel.

Like the pub, the trio of ales are predictable, safe and a tad staid with Adnam's Best, Fullers London Pride and Harvey's Best. The other beers, wine and spirits are standard boozer fodder. Roasts are up to scratch, the burgers good and the fish 'n' chips served with mushy peas.
