Review

A stalwart of the Parisian scene and a must-visit for any traveller passing through France's capital, this fabulous speakeasy-style bar lies hidden behind, and is accessed via, a door in the back of a taqueria.

It's an intimate candle-lit space that is intentionally rough around the edges. Perch at the bar to watch the skilled bartenders work their way through the menu or book a spot on the couches and relax.

Due to an upbeat soundtrack Candelaria is buzzier than other speakeasies, with a constant background of chat and laughter. However it still offers classically inspired cocktails alongside an impressive selection of agave spirits (including 45 tequilas). Be sure to try the best-selling La Guîpe Verte cocktail.

The taqueria at the front serves some pretty tasty food as well and just as many people pass through the door for tacos as they do for tequila cocktails. Easily one of Paris's best bars.
