Review

Built to accompany Blowfish, the upscale Asian restaurant with which it shares an entrance, Barfish can easily be said to be the prettiest bar space in Toronto. With its dramatically high ceiling, two-story front window, brick walls, Asian mural, and granite-topped bar running the length of the room, it is truly a beautiful room. A small seating area at the front and another at the back (lit by a colour-changing Belvedere sign) complete the available seating.

Cocktails are mostly Asian-inspired to accompany the cuisine next door, but do include modern takes on classics, like the Modern Old Fashioned (Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, clove syrup, maple & cardamom bitters, & maple smoke). Three barrel-aged cocktails are also on offer, including the Champs-Elysees (Hennessy VS, Campari, Dubonnet). This is also an excellent place to taste sake, as they have an extensive selection (for Toronto), including some that are made for them by a local sake-producer.

Food is available from the adjacent Blowfish and is imaginative and very well done.
