"This is not for everyone." The motto, printed on all of the menus and on one of the walls, refers to Doppelgänger's singleminded focus: the cocktail. The bar, an intimate space that takes its design cues from the style of Paris, Berlin, and New York of the 20s and 30s, does not stock beer or wine. Instead, a well-curated selection of spirits and vermouths takes center stage, augmented by fresh seasonal fruit and other locally sourced ingredients. The bartenders churn out a wide variety classic cocktails all night long and the massive drinks menu boasts over 70 original offerings.

The bar, located a little off the beaten track in San Telmo, caters to locals of all ages in addition to the groups of quietly stylish 30-something porteños in for afterwork drinks and older couples having dinner. There's certainly a whiff of pretension here, but it's offset by the welcoming and attentive staff. There may not be something for everyone, but they will go out of their way to find something for you.
