Pocket-sized bar from the folk behind 28 HongKong Street with a concept that changes every six months.

Crackerjack, the bar-cum-restaurant from Proof & Co, the imports-to-consultancy company that brought you 28 HongKong Street, had a bit of a difficult genesis. But Junior, the long-planned addition to the base venue, opened in July 2017 and seems to be going great guns.

It’s an ambitious concept: a pocket bar (with just ten seats) that changes concept every six months. Headed up by able head bartenders Zachary de Git and Peter Chua, the theme when we visited was agave spirits. That extended way beyond their selection of almost 40 tequilas and over 40 mezcals to sotol, raicilla and pechuga.

For each iteration of the theme, guests will be able to choose between well-executed and educational flights, which come with snacks, contemporary cocktails based on the theme, or classic cocktails adapted to the theme – and, yes, a Hanky Panky works fine with mezcal. This tiny place is likely to become very popular: extras spill over into the main Crackerjack venue out front, which may be part of the point.
