Review

This wood-panelled bar has a Tintin meets Inspector Gadget vibe to it. Think old school Fleet Street with trench coats and fedoras.

In September 2010, the bar changed its name Gimlet to GMT (an abbreviation for Gimlet – not Greenwich Mean Time). Despite its edgy, new name, the bar still retains a distinctly old-school vibe. Think mahogany counter, worn seats, gentle jazz and soft lighting.

Behind the counter is a cut-out picture of a man in a suit wearing a bowler hat, peeping through blinds, which helps set the tone in GMT. It’s the kind of establishment that exists on a need-to-know basis, and its clientele are returning regulars bedding in for the night in this tiny, corridor bar.

As another Barcelonan bar without a menu, it’s good to go with an idea of what classic you fancy, as the bartenders weren’t as forthcoming with conversation or recommendations as they were in other bars. Having said that, the drinks were well balanced and elegantly served...and unsurprisingly, they did a damned good gimlet.
