Factory tiles, raised seating areas, chalkboards, gun metal grey paintwork and floorboards are all indicative of an old boozer which has been liberally gastrofied. The Tommyfield also has the requisite open kitchen, factory lamps and mismatched furnishings.

The Tommyfield is so named due to its opening coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the first British chip shop at Tommyfield market in Oldham. 'Tommys' is the place local young professionals in the vicinity patronise on their way home of an evening, and indeed at lunchtimes. As well they should. It has a warm buzzy yet relaxed atmosphere and good grub. And this well-appointed boozer is of a scale where there always seems a spare table in the corner.

The chalkboards offer pies such steak, chicken, rabbit, wild boar and venison, several fish dishes, not to mention sirloin, rib-eye and 21 day aged rump from the grill.

A couple of cask ales are the highlights of an otherwise bland beer offering mainly comprising predictable Euro lagers. Happily the 14 wines by the glass are a little more exciting, as are the spirits which include esoteric and craft distillates. As with all good gastro boozers an espresso machine stands ready to stimulate.
