Just up the road from the Foreign Correspondents' Club, Stockton, with its 1890s London theme, is a textbook-perfect hybrid of gentleman's club and speakeasy that's as hard to fault as it's challenging to find. Duck down a narrow alley on a bend in Wyndham Street, and turn left before the blind door at the end: ascend the stairs for whiskey and classic cocktail paradise.

All the post-Milk & Honey elements are present and correct, notably house rules and braces-clad bartenders, but the retro London theme sits perfectly with Hong Kong's colonial history. Over-stuffed Chesterfields, buttoned bar stools, cod-surrealist Victorian art, antlers, typewriters and retro lamps adorn the warren of little rooms, while the menu runs from the Atholl Brose through Tiki-sounding blends to tweaked classics like the Hawtrey.

Yet Stockton isn't overly solemn. An impressive 4am license means the place can go off at weekends.
