Review

"Don't worry, we will always come to see you, we will cling together like the ivy," said actress Alice Delysia, quoting a popular song of the day, when she overheard Abel Glandellini apologising for the building works as he strived to create one of London's finest restaurants in 1917. The name stuck and the restaurant became star-studied and its tables famously hard to acquire.

The Club at The Ivy was added to the three floors above this institution in 2008 and is even harder to gain access to than the restaurant - membership is by invitation.

Having negotiated stair case enclosing the glass elevator, you'll find one restaurant floor sandwiched between two lounge bars, the one on the top floor also boasting a smoker's terrace. The furnishing is modern but suitably in keeping with the Ivy's classic leaded light diamond windows. The members are, let's say, mature and the atmosphere is somewhat formal although still relaxed.

Cocktails, wine and food are all in keeping with the restaurants excellent reputation and to visit without sampling the club pie of the day is simply sacrilege.
