This former warehouse by the bay has been bought by La Mar - a chain on a mission to introduce Peruvian cuisine to the masses.
The San Fransiscan branch is currently one of only two in North America, the other being in New York with branches in Peru, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Panama and Columbia.
The back bar is crammed with 20 different types of pisco. There's an entire shelf dedicated to BarSol pisco stacked three bottles deep - Le Mar can expect to get through about 130 (six bottle) cases of BarSol every month.
The staff are predominantly Peruvian, and it shows in the drinks - the Pisco Sour is practically straight from South America with a delicious, frothy top. The food is of a similarly high standard to the drinks, with a menu designed by Gastón Acurio - a famous ambassador of Peruvian cuisine. We suggest you try a mixture of different dishes, in particular the cebches (seafood marinated in lime juice and peppers) and causas (whipped potato with seafood toppings).
