Named after the man credited with inventing the charring process, the Baptist minister Elijah Craig. Little is known for sure about this semi-legendary figure who, along with 177 of his neighbours, was found guilty of distilling without a license on 26th September 1798. The reverend was fined $140.
In January 2016, due to pressure on limited stocks, Heaven Hill, the brand’s owners announced that the previous 12 year old age statement was to be dropped from Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon and that it will now be aged between eight and 12 years. Elijah Craig was first launched as a 12-year-old whiskey in 1986.
