Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum is made from the same blend of rums as the company’s flagship Goslings Black Seal Rum, but with a longer maturation period in oak casks. Each bottle is hand-filled, hand- labeled, sealed with wax and individually numbered. The bottled is shipped in a presentation box.

In October 2018, new elegant boxed packaging was released but this rum continues to be presented in champagne bottles, just as it’s always been.

Up until WWI, Bermuda’s distinctive black rum was sold straight from the barrel with customers bringing their own bottles to be filled. Eventually the black rum was sold in champagne bottles, recycled from the British Officer’s Mess, and the corks sealed with black sealing wax. This led folk to start asking for the bottle with the “Black Seal”. Years later, the barrel juggling Black Seal logo was added.

Appearance:

Clear, deep mahogany amber.

Aroma:

Pungent, dried fruit, cigar box, cherries, toffee, passion fruit, cinnamon and pimenta allspice.

Taste:

Full-bodied. Bitter wood tannins, cinnamon and pimenta allspice balances rich dried fruit, baked apple, treacle and vanilla fudge.

Aftertaste:

Long fruity and spicy finish with pleasing varnished dried fruit.

Overall:

This huge rum is rich yet dry, with spice and wood tannins mellowed by rich dried fruit, treacle/molasses and vanilla fudge. A pleasing boat varnish-like note adds complexity.
