Peachtree was the first liqueur of its type (hence "original" in the name), creating what became known as the "peach schnapps liqueur" category. It remains the world's best-selling peach liqueur, selling a staggering 13 million bottles across over 100 countries since its launch in 1984.

In the early 1980s in Georgia, USA, a chap called Earl laRoe was a flavour scientist for National Distillers (then the U.S. distributor for De Kuyper who now make Peachtree). National Distillers asked Earl to develop a new lighter, sweeter and lower-alcohol product. One day, while pruning his peach trees, Earl was inspired to create what became Peachtree, a liqueur that tastes and smells of tree-ripe peaches.

When it was launched in the 1980s, it quickly became the liqueur of choice for bartenders to make a Fuzzy Navel and then a Sex On The Beach. Today, picking up on the trend for lower alcohol and calorie serves, its signature cocktail is a Fizzy Peachtree.

Peachtree was relaunched at the end of 2010 with a new bottle design which was further updated in 2019. It is one of the leading products in the De Kuyper stable.
