Bols started making 'Bols Huile de Cacao' liqueur in the 19th century using cacao, then a new exotic ingredient. Bols still flavours this liqueur with a hot percolation of cacao beans giving it the taste of dark chocolate compared to that of white chocolate for Bols Crème de Cacao White.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 15/03/2012

Appearance:

Clear, dark reddy brown chocolate colour.

Aroma:

Pungent dark Easter egg chocolate with pronounced orange liqueur notes and faint vanilla.

Taste:

Richly flavour of bitter, dark chocolate with orange zest – smoothed by well-judged sugar and faint vanilla.

Aftertaste:

Slight spicyness emerges on the long lingering bitter chocolate finish with faint orange.
