Named in tribute to René Lalou, Chairman of Mumm during much of the 20th century. A special cuvée bearing his name was produced between 1966 and 1985. In 2007, Mumm decided to revive what had become a much revered cuvée.

1999 was a year marked by great variations in temperature and Mumm say this “vintage is characterised by a very low acidity and high sugar content. The same properties marked the 1989 harvest, a year that is still now recognised as an exceptional vintage.”

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 09/08/2012

Appearance:

Clear, pale golden with a rose gold tint with persistent small bubbles.

Aroma:

Unctuous, freshly baked wholemeal bread – hinting at sultana loaf with apricot jam. Hints of walnut cake and candied lemon.

Taste:

Rich, serious, rounded digestif champagne. Complex, integrated and beautifully balanced with a slight creaminess, white peach and mille feuille patisserie.

Aftertaste:

Delicate and fine. Fades still maintaining its structure.
