Jägermeister is a German bitter-sweet liqueur made from 56 varieties of herbs, fruits and spices, macerated in spirit for up to six weeks and then matured in oak before blending. Although established in 1878, Jägermeister did not produce this liqueur until 1935.
Pronounced 'Yey-Ger-My-Stir', the name means 'master of the hunt'. The logo has a deer with a cross between its antlers, recalling a vision in the life of St Hubert, the patron saint of hunters.
Jägermeister took off in the USA with the launch of branded 'tap machines' in 1993 offering Jägermeister's "ice cold shot" experience. In September 2013, the Shotmeister, billed as being a smaller and lighter model designed to dispense Jägermeister below zero degrees Fahrenheit from a 750ml or 1 litre bottle. Alternatively to drinking as a frozen shot, serve mixed with tonic, lemonade or cola.

Clear, deep amber with burgundy highlights.
Pungent and herbal with cherry, stewed fruit, chocolate, cola cube sweets, liquorice and floral blossom.
Full-flavoured and wonderfully complex with cola cubes, liquorice, dark chocolate, prunes poached in syrup, damsons, sloes, lemon zest, cinnamon, ginger, aniseed and dried mint leaves. Syrupy sweetness is balanced by spice and peppery spirit attack.

Sadly, mostly unappreciated due to being consumed as a frozen shot, but Jägermeister has complexity and depth of flavour which shines when sipped as a digestive, or used as an amaro, or as a top dressing in a cocktail.
