Lanson Extra Age Brut is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards (Avize, Chouilly, Oger, Vertus, Verzenay, Bouzy), and a marriage of 2000, 2002 and 2004 vintage wines. Bottled in 2006, the blend was then aged eight years in Lanson's cellars.
‘Extra Age’ was launched to celebrate Lanson’s 250th Anniversary. It is traditionally made without malolactic fermentation, blends vintage champagnes and wines from Grand and Premiers Crus, and is then cellar aged a minimum of five years.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 12/10/2014
Appearance:
Clear, pale golden with lively small bubbles.
Aroma:
White grapes, pear, buttery croissant and biscuit with delicate candied citrus, lemon zest and floral honeysuckle, dried fruit and faint oily salmon.
Taste:
Honeysuckle notes continue into the fresh palate with fresh lemon zest, green apple and ripe pear honeyed sweetness, balancing acidity and sweet spice.
Aftertaste:
Cleansing citrus (lemon and grapefruit) acidity balancing lingering icing sugar. Fades with notes of pear.
