This Greek rendition of an English old tom gin is made by Finest Roots for The Clumsies bar in Athens using the following nine botanicals: liquorice, rosemary, angelica root, chamomile, juniper, cardamom, coriander, nutmeg and bitter orange peel. A limited edition released in January 2015.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Pine, eucalyptus and lime zest with coriander, angelica root and nutmeg.

Taste:

Mild icing sugar sweetness balanced by dry pine, eucalyptus, barky herbs, charcoal, cardamom spice and orange zest. Chamomile and liquorice add layers of complexity.

Aftertaste:

Icing sugar sweetness, dry pine, eucalyptus and chamomile with long lingering black pepper spice and cardamom spice. Overall: So beautifully balanced and complex that this gin is perhaps best appreciated sipped neat at room temperature à la malt whisky.
