Made by Fourpure and named ‘Switch House’ to celebrate the opening of Tate Modern’s building on London’s Southbank. This American-style pale ale is brewed and canned within three miles of the Tate building and is available in Tate outlets, including Liverpool, St Ives, Bankside and Modern.

“This beer showcases a decidedly new-school American hop blend: Falconer’s Flight. Prominent aromas of pine and citrus, Falconer’s Flight is boastful and bombastic, packing tons of flavour and aroma into a sessionable package. To brew this beer we took a simple base of Golden Promise malt, and piled on a healthy dose of delicious hoppiness, but kept the ABV low for extra drinkability.” says Tom Lowe co-founder of Fourpure Brewery.

The illustration on the cans, manufactured by Rexam PLC, is by Peter Savile, a graphic designed noted for his work on record sleeves, including: Joy Division’s first LP, ‘Unknown Pleasures’; New Order’s ‘Movement’; and Suede’s ‘Coming Up’.

Appearance:

(sample can BB 03/Dec/16) Cloudy, orangey amber with retentive off-white head but little in the way of lacing.

Aroma:

Vibrant pine, zesty orange and grapefruit, light mango and passion fruit, with white crusty baguette malt.

Taste:

Moderately bitter, fresh and refreshing. Zesty citrus led with bitter piney hops, more tropical fruit, enlivening carbonation and underlying white bread maltiness.

Aftertaste:

Zesty citrus notes continue in the long fairly bitter piney finish.

Overall:

Perfectly balanced and, as befits the co-branding, this zesty citrusy pale ale is a work of art – both in its brewing and the colourful minimalist can.
