Launched 1st September 2016 at London's Savoy Hotel, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is the brainchild of Giuseppe Gallo who was inspired by traditional Italian Rosolio liqueurs to launch the first new commercial example for decades.
Peels from bergamots grown in Italy's Calabrian region and cedros from Sicily are infused in cold water to release their essential oils (a process called Sfumatura) prior to being blended with Italian neutral grain spirit. This bergamot and cedro flavoured spirit is blended with a separately made maceration of Roman chamomile from Lazio, lavender, gentian, yellow roses and melissa balm from Northern Italy.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 03/09/2016
Appearance:
Clear (but not bright), straw yellow golden.
Aroma:
Wonderfully aromatic with zesty citrus oils and underlying herbal complexity - particularly chamomile and gentian. Faint orange blossom lavender and rose petal floral notes.
Taste:
Delicately spiced with zesty bergamot and lemon. Subtle rooty bitterness balances light honeyed sweetness. Faint floral notes.
Aftertaste:
Floral notes are more pronounced with the dry zesty finish with lingering zesty lemon and lavender.
Overall:
Superbly balanced and complex with zesty, herbal, bitterness and honeyed sweet notes harmoniously complementing each other, garnished with a floral bouquet.
