Pensador is made in the Miahuatlán region of Southern Oaxaca, Mexico, by Don Atenogenes García and his family in a distillery (Palenque) located on the Calle Pensamientos (Thoughts Road). Hence this mezcal’s name, Pensador, thinker in Spanish.

And its full name, El Camino Del Pensador, which translates as The Way Of The Thinker.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 02/05/2018

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Earthy smoky wood ash and black pepper with roasted chocolaty agave and faint citrus.

Taste:

Dry, chewy dry wood smoke, cracked black pepper and light chili spice, earthiness, faint citrus and oak.

Aftertaste:

Pleasing spiced smoky finish reveals a flavour best described as metallic citrus with subtle but robust black pepper spice.

Overall:

With its assertive earthy smokiness, peppery spice and 48% alc./vol strength, Pensador is a robust and characterful mezcal with woody notes – despite its being joven.
