Marketed as being "the worlds' first ever blend of English and Scotch Malt Whisky", Steel Bonnets is a blended malt whisky named "to honour the memory of those people who lived in the Border Marches of England and Scotland during the 13th – 17th centuries."
"In early English, to 'reive' is to rob, and from this were born 'The Border Reivers', nicknamed the 'Steel Bonnets' after the helmets they wore for protection. 'Steel Bonnets' was the nickname given to the community known as the Border Reivers."
The English element in this blend is single malt whisky from The Lakes Distillery and this is blended with malts from across the boarder.

Clear, mid-golden amber.
Pencil shavings, vanilla, charcoal, cinnamon spice, and woodsmoke.
Full-bodied. Pleasingly malty and lightly smoky with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and back pepper spice.
Ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and peppery spice with lingering maltiness.
What this cross-border blended malt lacks in finesse it makes up for in the brashness of its lightly wood smoky and assertively spicy character.
