Isle of Jura is not generally a heavily peated malt but Prophecy is (40 parts per million) and although does not carry an age statement has an average age of 20 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Prophecy was bottled without chill filtration. Only 1,800 cases were released worldwide.
The ‘Prophecy’ referred to in this whisky’s name comes from the tale of a soothsayer’s which would be proven to be scarily accurate. She predicted the downfall of the illustrious Campbell clan who ruled over the Isle of Jura in the early 1700s. The Campbells evicted the soothsayer from the island and as she left she foretold that the last Campbell would leave the island, one eyed and with all his worldly possessions held in one cart drawn by a solitary white horse.
In 1938, over 200 years after her prediction, Charles Campbell, the last Campbell left. One of his eyes had been shot during the Great War and the cart carrying his positions was drawn by a white horse.

.
Blasts of prehistoric heather. Nose has tar, Brazil nut with a hint of iodine.
Slightly sweet hugely peaty palate has pronounced notes of eucalyptus and pine smoke with notes of smoky bacon crisps and liquorice.
Rich with pine sap, pine nuts and ends with liquorice. Not what you might expect from Jura but a great dram and great value.
