Bacardi Superior is the original 'light white' rum, first made in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardi Massó. It is a blend of heavy-bodied and drier light-bodied rums aged separately in lightly charred ex-bourbon casks for 12 to 24 months. These rums are charcoal filtrated and blended.
Originally called Ron Superior de Bacardi Y Cia and bottled at 49% alc./vol., the first bottlings also used the term 'Carta Blanca' on the white labels. In some markets in the last half of the 20 century Bacardi Superior was known as Bacardi Carta Blanca, but by 2006 the rum was universally labelled Bacardi Superior while referencing Carta Blanca on the label.

Crystal clear.
Delicate citrus, bamboo wood, blue cheese and mushroom soup with faint grilled almond.
Clean and dry, yet very slight sweetness with muscovado sugar, blue cheese, spiced apples, pears and notes of vanilla, caramel and a faint pinch of black pepper spice.
Lingering cracked black pepper and faint mushroom soup notes. Delicate all round.
At 40% alc./vol. this is a brilliant rum but sadly in much of the world, including Europe and the UK Carta Blanca is only available at a price-fighting strength of 37.5% alc./vol..
