After WWII the Luxardo family were forced to flee their war-torn distillery in Croatia and set up a new distillery in Italy. Now with no connection to the Luxardo family, their former Croatian distillery produces products under the Maraska name, including this "World Famous Imitation Liqueur".

We presume the word "imitation" on the label is a reference to this liqueur being flavoured with extract/apricot flavouring rather than being produced from apricots.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 01/05/2011

Appearance:

Clear but with white fatty flake precipitation, star gold.

Aroma:

Banana candy, apricot conserve with white blossom/honeysuckle with tropical roasted pineapple.

Taste:

Honeyed banana fritter with green melon flavours - not obviously apricot. A somewhat old-lady perfume quality, with aggressive pink peppery notes considering its strength.

Aftertaste:

Confectioner's banana and melon.
