A traditional liqueur made from Cydonia Oblonga or European Quince and not Chaenomeles or Japonica, which apparently, while good for making jelly are too acidic for liqueur making. Bramley and Gage use varieties including Vranga and Meecher’s Prolific and do not use of preservatives or colourings.

Review and Tasting

Appearance

Clear, coppery amber with bright polished golden highlights.

Aroma

Subdued nose with earthy quince, figs and plum fruit.

Taste

Restrained use of sugar make for a dry liqueur if there is such a thing – a least while is starts sweet it is quickly dried with fruit tannins. Flavour is of figs and quince.

Aftertaste

Fairly short finish with lingering leathery tea-like tannins.
