Launched January 2012, Westward is an American malt whiskey made from 100% Pacific Northwest two-row malted barley, fermented with Scottish and American ale yeasts and double pot distilled. It is aged No.2 char virgin American oak casks for at 2 years. Each bottle is hand-numbered.
Sampled on 03/02/2013
(batch No. 2, bottle No. 296) Clear, golden amber with polished gold highlights.
Malty apple cider, maraschino cherry and cinnamon spice. Water releases more leathery sweetcorn and pear drops.
The use of new American oak casks gives this malt a distinctive bourbon-like spicy twang with char-grilled corn-on-the-cob and wonderful herbal and fresh barley water notes.
Lingering toasted barley with cinnamon, nutmeg spice and black pepper spice. Incredible complexity and refinement for such a youthful whisky.
