Part of Diageo’s 2014 Special Releases, this unpeated Caol Ila was aged for 15 years in first fill ex-bourbon casks. A release of 10,668 bottles (RRP £75).

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, pale golden amber.

Aroma:

Burnt toast, grainy cereal and hazelnut with faint smokiness, vanilla, citrus zest and coconut. Water amplifies vanilla with faint berry notes.

Taste:

Toasted coconut, peppery at first with white chocolate, rum & raisin ice-cream and faint smokiness. Faint barley-sugar sweetness helps mask high strength. Water (go easy with amount added) releases ginger spice and faint saltiness.

Aftertaste:

Fruit cake, toasty nuts and smoke with faint eucalyptus.
