Review and Tasting

Sampled on 17/09/2019

Appearance:

Clear, deep reddy brown.

Aroma:

Red wine, cinnamon spice, earthy mocha coffee and white pepper.

Taste:

Cinnamon and black pepper spiced red wine with nutmeg and coffee.

Aftertaste:

Spiced full-bodied red wine.

Overall:

The addition of de-cocainised Peruvian coca leaf to an "exceptional Bordeaux" red wine may seem like a waste of good claret but Vin Mariani was an historically important product which undoubtedly helped inspire the creation of Coca-Cola and was probably the secret/lost ingredient in a Pisco Punch. It may lack the cocaine but this modern-day reproduction probably tastes better than the original.
