Savoia Orancio is a delicately bittersweet aperitif vino with bitter and sweet oranges alongside fragrant bergamot and lime.
Described as being an amaro-dolce (bitter-sweet) "vino amber," Savoia Orancio is the creation of drinks-industry innovator Giuseppe Gallo, founder of Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto and Savoia Americano, who was inspired by Italy's rich history, from Marco Polo to the heights of Venetian maritime trading. The label's colour is inspired by the Venetian lagoon and rich blue covers that protect the gondolas when lined up on their moorings.
Savoia Orancio combines citrus (bitter orange, lime and bergamot) and pomegranate infused with ginger and saffron spice. Aromatic herbs add complexity, including cape aloe, gentian and rhubarb root. However, what sets Savoia Orancio apart is its being "the first-ever Aperitivo with Orange Wine", neatly explained in the brand's press release:
Giuseppe Gallo was inspired to create SAVOIA ORANCIO from an ancient winemaking practice that dates back over 8,000 years: the creation of orange wines in terracotta amphorae, originating in Georgia. Unlike white wines, where the skins are removed after crushing, in orange wines the skins are left to macerate in the must for an extended period. The long maceration gives life to a fuller and persistent orange wine. The prolonged contact with the skins results in a unique aromatic profile and the peculiar orange hue of the wine.

Savoia Orancio is designed to be served cold over ice or mixed with soda or tonic water to create a refreshing aperitivo.
Savoia is wine-based, so once opened, it should be stored in the same way you would a vermouth or sherry. Keep refrigerated, ideally reseal with a device like a Vacu-Vin Wine Saver and use within a few months.
Savoia Orancio was launched in London on 21st September 2023, exactly two years after the launch of Savoia Americano.
Sampled on 25/09/2023
Clear, light orange.
Vinous herbal zesty citrus with saffron and cinnamon.
Bittersweet with assertive zesty citrus and enlivening saffron and cinnamon spice.
Long bitter, citrus zest and spice that lingers on either side of your tongue.
Savoia Orancio's low alcohol strength, bittersweetness and Italian origins invite comparison to numerous red-coloured bittersweet aperitivos, some also identified with Venice and its Spritz culture. However, Orancio is more bitter and is set apart by its zestyness and wine base.
