The first Glenrothes 1995 Vintage release (Distilled 26/Oct/1995) was in 2011 and this was from a combination of first-fill sherry seasoned American oak and refill casks, but at the time of bottling

some of the casks were held back as their whisky was not considered ready for bottling. The whisky in these casks was then transferred to Jerez de la Frontera dry oloroso sherry seasoned first-fill American Oak casks and it is this whisky that was bottled 28/July/16 for this second 1995 release (made available in March 2017).

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 27/03/2017

Appearance:

Clear and bright, mid-golden amber.

Aroma:

Chocolate sponge cake, zesty lemon, vanilla, nutmeg and chocolate fudge with fragrant floral aromas. Water releases nutty banoffee pie which turns to zesty lemon aromas. Faint Swan Vesta matchbox lighting strip.

Taste:

Dry spicy oak, vanilla and new leather with lemon zest and faint sulphur. Water amplifies oaky spice and releases bread pudding flavours.

Aftertaste:

Nutmeg spice, banana toffee, dry oak and faint sulphur.

Overall:

Dry and spice with notes that start as chocolate sponge cake on the nose and become bread pudding on the palate. Vanilla and zesty lemon as present through as are faint sulphur notes.
