Review

The latest opening from Indra Kantono and Gan Guoyi (Jigger and Pony, Gibson, etc) is quite the departure. It's an elegant waterfront space, with views right across to Marina Bay Sands and a feel, between the vaulted ceilings and the arched gridwork on the bar, a little like an Italian train station restaurant during some vanished golden age of travel. It's also an all-day concept with food in play as well as the drinks – and if daytime drinking's your thing, there are many worse places to sit than the open-air tables out front.

The pan-Italian drinks concept is executed every bit as well as you'd expect given the owners' previous form. There's a selection of Spritzes, a range of Negronis, including an impressive Robusto Negroni with rum, Cynar, pimento dram and Cinzano, crowdpleasers including a pair of Frosés, and, of course, the ever-popular Fernet shot. Yet, whether because of the location, the all-day concept or both, it seems to have a bit less soul than their Chinatown offerings.
