Greek Difford's Guide
Words by Simon Difford
Local writers and Greek language…
We are proud to announce that in December 2015 we will be launching Greek Difford's Guide with existing articles translated into Greek and new local content written by two, highly respected and experienced dedicated drinks writers based in Athens - Denny Kallivoka and Eleni Nikoloulia.
Over the coming months, as Harry, Matt and Mike, our developers revamp our website, more and more areas of Difford's Guide will be available in Greek. We will be reviewing bars not only in cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki, but also in Cyprus and the Greek islands. These bar reviews will be available in Greek and English. We will also have in-depth coverage of Greek wines, spirits, beers and other local products.
Some industry insiders who I have shared this news with over recent months have expressed their surprise that of all the countries we could have chosen to launch our first foreign language site, we choose Greece. The country may be technically bankrupt and hold elections seeming with each season of the year, but the Greeks and Cypriots are among the most hospitable of nationalities, and while the country has its challenges, it's bar and drinks scene remains one of the most vibrant in the world. In the recent World's 50 Best Bars the excellent Clumsies in Athens came in at #22 and Lost + Found in Nicosia, Cyprus at #48. The Athens Bar Show is also one of the best shows I have had the pleasure of visiting in the world.
We are looking forward to spending more time enjoying the comparatively clement weather Greece offers and the warmth of Greek hospitality. If you're reading this in Greece we look forward to seeing you. If you're reading this elsewhere in Europe then please help support Greece and the Greek bar industry by taking your next holiday there.
