Given its name, obviously, this cocktail was originally based on Islay peated malt whisky, but as they'd say on the BBC, "other peated whiskies are available"...
Wanted an Old Fashioned for World Cocktail Day that we had not tried. While I am not big on smoky flavours in my cocktail, decided to try. Really enjoyed this cocktail. You need to use a good quality Islay. The sugar syrup does soften the smoky and the Peychaud the sweetness. Very well balanced.
