Very good drink, but a little too sweet. It has unfortunate cough drop overtones, but these are easily ignored.

Agreed. Too sweet. Hence, I've cut the sugar syrup back by a third to 5ml / 1 spoon.

I found adding some lemon zest and extra juice it can save one that’s already too sweet. Almost makes it taste like iced tea.
