FYI !!! There just happen to be 26 bars and restaurants in Buffalo NY serving Tom and Jerry's this season. 1 of which (Schwabels in West Seneca) which dates back ~134 years!! There is a Tom & Jerry "tasting tour" that runs to as many as you can get to !! LOL!
I grew up in Buffalo my first experience having a Tom and Jerry was at Schwabls. I fell in love, however only tried once to make myself with no success.
What a horrible experience. The egg mixture coagulated, making the "frothy head" taste like spiced wet scambled eggs, followed by hot watered down cognac.
I must have done something horribly wrong. Otherwise people wouldn't have enjoyed this cocktail since before 1862.
