I really like this cocktail, but with all the big flavours I can't really taste wether I do or don't add the 5ml cold Earl Grey. I suppose it's just my unrefined palate?

5ml is a tiny measure for a relatively subtly flavoured ingredient, even if a very strongly brewed Earl Grey tea.
