Great looking in the glass - appealing hazy gold. Delicious - I really like using more fruit juice than other recipes, and the prominence of the pineapple plus the variety of other juice really expands the depth and breadth of the fruity flavors. Excellent - a favorite!
Just had again with a New Orleans supper. Used overproof Navy Rum and some homemade grenadine syrup instead of the sugar syrup. Gave it more of the pink tinge you see in New Orleans. Garnished with a few fresh organic cherries. Outstanding.
My first visit to New Orleans was in 1977. Back then the Hurricanes were just ok (no caps). Over the years they have become this touristy sweet drink with cheap alcohol. Even Pat O'Brians serves fake hurricanes any more.
Thank you for helping to preserve the taste of the original. It is exactly what a Hurricane should take like. This was excellent and exactly how it should taste. A bit sweet, but alcohole forward.
This is my 6th year into my cocktail mania and last night made my first hurricane. I never made this one because I was always under the impression it had bad press, like the Screwdriver say. Being a big Tiki cocktail fan I don't know why on earth I waited so long. It was fabulous.
