Whatever you think of modern-day Rose's Lime Cordial (other brands are available as well as homemade recipes), as with the Gimlet, I believe lime cordial...
I have to ask, which lime cordial are you using? Because when you use a good lime cordial (I made my own with Jeffrey Morgenthaler's recipe), it was fresh yet had this bracing sweet-sour quality that truly shone in this drink, even popping the orange out of the Curacao.
So we made the syrup according to Morgenthaler's recipe and included it in the cocktail as specified in its recipe. The syrup is wonderfully flavoursome and with it the cocktail does come alive. Thanks again for the tip. And now, a Gimlet anyone?
We don't use lime cordial at all, since all of the commercial ones we've ever tried are, to our taste, terrible. We weren't aware of the Morgenthaler recipe and, since we make our own passionfruit and lemon syrups, will give it a go. Thanks a lot for the tip.
