Made this with Xoriguer gin and Tio Pepe and it's a very good cocktail; it stands up to snacks very well. I suspect it would even cope with bhajis etc. Definitely needs a tasty gin.
We're just enjoying one of these now, and have to disagree somewhat with the previous comments, we think it's an appealing combination. We're using Marie Brizard lychee liqueur, and it stands up to the grapefruit very well but we did use supermarket pink grapefruit juice. My gin choice was poor, we used Edinburgh cannonball which is too strong and lingers on the palate after the fruit has gone. However, as long as you think of it as a sort-of lychee gin martini, I think it's worth trying.....
Another connection to Eeyore would be that his favourite food was thistles. Cynar is named for the artichoke, which is a form of thistle and member of the Cynara genus. Maybe Eeyore would have enjoyed an artichoke now and again. A great cocktail, one of the few with a 9 on our spreadsheet........
