I did the blasphemy and made this with Havana Club 7 years as that’s the only thing that I had (FBI would like to know my location, I know). Its flavour wasn’t however strong enough to stand in comparison with the ginger beer so definitely try this with a dark/er rum.
I've used the exact same products and amounts specified but mine turned out more on the orange spectrum of colour. I suppose due to the amount of bitter that I used.
This drink also tasted and looked very close to the Old Cuban (that I tried just yesterday). Again, possibly due to the amount of Angostura Bitters used. Would definitely give it another try with maybe just one good dash but curious to see if I've done anything wrong here.
Tried it with Bombay Sapphire Dry Gin and Creme de Peche from Sainsbury. Still very nice texture and initial taste. After-taste was a big meh, probably because of the ingredients I used. Overall fairly good :)
