First sip didn’t send me, but a few sips in, the whole combination really works, including the grapefruit twist. We did a side by side, making one with Campari and one with St. George Bruto Americano. The Bruto was the hands down favorite - way more interesting flavors and aroma.

Great suggestion on the Bruto! The complexity really pulls the drink together. We also added a few drops of grapefruit bitters and thought it blended well.

My wife and I love this drink. It is an excellent mix of herbal and brightly sweet notes, with a dry finish. We have also tried this with a higher-proof bourbon (Makers 46) and enjoyed the results.

Of the different variations of De La Liousiane this one is our favorite, although we will occasionally split the difference between this one and the proportions of #4, going lighter on the Benedictine. Also-wonderful suggestion on the St. George, it’s one of our favorite types of absinthe, and its basil/herb notes compliment the Benedictine quite well.
