Fabulous - one of my favorite night sippers. I prefer different proportions, but it's up to the 'discerning drinker'. My version:
3/4oz bourbon, 3/4oz cognac/brandy, 1/2oz benedictine,3/4oz vermouth,1 dash of angostura, 2dashes of peychaud. Plus maraschino cherry!

I've been longing for ages for something I could put my bottle of Monin lavender syrup to use with. Glad I found this recipe, it's a revelation - and you can count on me trying the Last Palabra soon, too!

Couldn't agree more !!

Simply fantastic. But I didn't get such a lovely brown color - mine is more transparent (rather martini-alike). Maybe this is because of vermouth (I used Dolin)..

This recipe is wrong. You can use either use cognac or rye whiskey, but not both. Never use bourbon. I'm from New Orleans and to make the Sazerac to this recipe would be sacrilage.

What does 'wrong' mean ? Every cocktail has been invented by some person, it's a subject of personal taste. The world would be horribly boring with such a thinking. If someone prefers a twist of sazerac with ketchup, then hey why not ?
