I concur with Howard’s note — choice of rye is crucial here. Peerless single barrel rye made this a bit too sweet.

Leaning into the Caribbean theme by adding 10ml allspice dram balanced the drink nicely.

My grapefruit may have been on the sweeter side but a few dashes of Peychaud’s balanced things out quite well.
